The Goa Konkani Akademi (GKA) has initiated a groundbreaking project to compile an encyclopedia of individuals who have made significant contributions to the Konkani language. This effort spans literature, the freedom struggle, the language movement, and other fields. The Akademi emphasized that this is the first such initiative undertaken by a state government. The encyclopedia is titled 'Konkani Bhasha Sahitya Shilpkar Kosh'.
Project Objectives
The primary goal of this project is to preserve the rich history of the Konkani language and culture. By documenting and introducing future generations to pioneers, activists, writers, and artists, the Akademi aims to ensure that invaluable contributions to the Konkani movement, literature, folk art, music, cinema, education, research, and theatre are not forgotten.
Call for Submissions
To make the encyclopedia as comprehensive as possible, the Akademi has called upon Goans to submit information across various categories. These include freedom fighters and activists who were directly or indirectly associated with the Konkani movement. The documentation will cover poets, novelists, short story writers, essayists, translators, children's authors, and writers working in different Konkani dialects.
Additionally, the project will include contributors to theatre and performing arts, such as playwrights, directors, cinema artistes, tiatrists, musicians, dancers, and folk artistes. It will also document linguists, lexicographers, teachers, professors, and researchers in the fields of Konkani education and research.
Journalists and professionals working in Konkani newspapers, periodicals, radio, television, and digital media will also be included in this comprehensive documentation effort.
