Shashank Singh, Father Booked After Cook Alleges Assault

Punjab Kings cricketer Shashank Singh and his father have been booked by police in Madhya Pradesh after their cook alleged assault and abuse. The case was registered at the Vijay Nagar police station in Indore on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, based on a complaint by the cook, identified as 32-year-old Ramesh Yadav.

Cook Alleges Physical Assault and Verbal Abuse

According to the complaint, Yadav worked as a cook at the residence of Shashank Singh and his father for the past two years. He alleged that on June 28, the cricketer and his father physically assaulted him and subjected him to verbal abuse over a minor disagreement regarding the preparation of a meal. Yadav stated that he was slapped and punched, and his belongings were thrown out of the house.

The police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (obscene acts and songs), and 506 (criminal intimidation).

Police Investigation Underway

Station House Officer (SHO) of Vijay Nagar police station, Inspector Rajesh Tiwari, confirmed the registration of the FIR. "We have registered a case based on the complaint of Ramesh Yadav. Both Shashank Singh and his father have been named as accused. We are investigating the matter and will take appropriate action after collecting evidence," Tiwari said.

Shashank Singh is a prominent player for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has also represented Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket. His father, a local businessman, has denied the allegations, calling them "baseless and motivated."

Accused Deny Allegations

In a statement to the media, Shashank Singh said, "These allegations are completely false. We have always treated our staff with respect. This is an attempt to extort money from us. We will cooperate with the police and prove our innocence." His father echoed similar sentiments, stating that the cook had been terminated for poor performance and had filed a false case out of revenge.

However, Yadav's lawyer claimed that his client has medical reports showing injuries consistent with the assault. "My client was brutally beaten. He has been traumatized. We demand a fair investigation and strict action against the accused," the lawyer said.

Community Reaction and Impact on Career

The incident has sparked debate in the local community, with many calling for a thorough inquiry. The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) has said it is monitoring the situation but has not taken any immediate action against the cricketer. "We are aware of the case. We will wait for the police investigation to conclude before making any decision," an MPCA official said.

Shashank Singh's IPL franchise, Punjab Kings, has not yet issued an official statement. The cricketer is currently not in the national squad but has been a consistent performer in domestic tournaments.
