Schindler indicated that employees within specific teams of the global business organization (GBO) are eligible to leave the company with a severance package through this voluntary program.

In the memo, Schindler acknowledged the company's strong start to the year, attributing it to employee achievements in 2025. However, he emphasized the dynamic nature of the industry, stating, "But the game is dynamic, the pace is electric, and the stakes are high."

Schindler further clarified that every member of the GBO team must be fully committed to Google's mission of leveraging AI for greater impact. The report specifies that the voluntary exit program will affect certain roles within GBO teams in the United States, including solutions teams, sales, corporate development, and other functions. Schindler explained, "While all GBO functions are essential to our long-term strategy, we've decided not to offer VEP for these particular roles to limit as much disruption to our customers as possible."
