Rockstar Games has introduced a limited-time upgrade promotion for Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 5 owners on older consoles. This offer grants eligible players access to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA V and GTA Online without any additional cost. The promotion arrives just before the launch of a new GTA Online update titled The Kortz Center Heist, which is expected to release in July.
Eligibility for the Free Upgrade
According to Rockstar, players who own any PlayStation 4 version of Grand Theft Auto 5 or the digital Xbox One version of the game can upgrade to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S versions without paying an upgrade fee. The offer is available starting today, June 18, and allows users to transfer their Story Mode progress and GTA Online characters to the newer consoles.
How to Claim the Free GTA 5 Upgrade
The offer is valid for players who already own:
- Any PS4 version of Grand Theft Auto 5
- The digital Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto 5
Eligible users can upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S editions starting June 18. The upgraded editions include technical improvements and features such as Hao's Special Works vehicles and upgrades, Career Progress rewards, and other enhancements available on current-generation consoles.
PC players can also upgrade from the Legacy version of GTA 5 to the Enhanced edition at no additional cost. The PC version includes features like ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination.
What’s New in the GTA Online Update Coming in July
The upgrade offer coincides with Rockstar's preparation for The Kortz Center Heist in GTA Online. This update revolves around the Kortz Center, a famous art gallery located in Pacific Bluffs within Los Santos. Players can purchase an Art Studio addition for their Mansion property, scout the location, and choose different approaches for the multi-stage heist.
Rockstar has announced that the upcoming weeks will feature special events with bonus GTA$ rewards, discounts, and opportunities to obtain rare collectibles through the Fine Art Collector program. Additionally, GTA+ members will receive a GTA$2,000,000 discount on Mansion properties, and all players can get a 40% bonus GTA$ on Shark Card purchases for a limited time.
The Kortz Center Heist update is scheduled to launch in July for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
