Hyundai to Launch 2 New SUVs in India: Compact EV and ICE SUV

Hyundai Motor India is gearing up to strengthen its SUV portfolio with the launch of two new models in 2026. The South Korean automaker plans to introduce a compact electric SUV and a new internal combustion engine (ICE) SUV, aiming to challenge the dominance of Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors in the Indian market.

Compact Electric SUV

The compact electric SUV is expected to be based on Hyundai's dedicated electric platform, similar to the Ioniq 5. It will likely be positioned below the Ioniq 5 in terms of pricing and size, targeting the mass-market EV segment. This model is anticipated to offer a range of around 350-400 kilometers on a single charge, making it suitable for daily commuting and city driving. Hyundai aims to price it competitively to take on the Tata Nexon EV and Maruti Suzuki's upcoming EV models.

Key Features

  • Compact SUV design with modern aesthetics
  • Electric powertrain with advanced battery technology
  • Fast charging capability
  • Connected car features and advanced safety systems

New ICE SUV

In addition to the EV, Hyundai will launch a new ICE SUV, likely a sub-compact or compact model to slot below the Creta. This model is expected to feature Hyundai's latest design language, including the parametric grille and sleek LED lighting. It will be powered by a choice of petrol and diesel engines, with manual and automatic transmission options. The new SUV will compete directly with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, and Kia Sonet.

Market Strategy

Hyundai's dual approach with electric and ICE SUVs reflects its strategy to cater to diverse customer preferences while transitioning towards electrification. The company aims to leverage its strong brand presence and extensive dealership network to capture market share from rivals. With these launches, Hyundai expects to consolidate its position among the top three SUV manufacturers in India.

Both models are expected to be unveiled in the first half of 2026, with sales commencing later in the year. Pricing for the ICE SUV is likely to start around INR 8 lakh, while the electric SUV may be priced between INR 12-15 lakh, depending on variants and battery options.
