A 28-year-old man from Deogarh district was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly uploading obscene photos and videos of a young woman on social media after their marriage proposal fell apart.
Background of the Case
Addressing the media, additional SP (Sambalpur) Shashank Shekhar Behura said the accused and the woman were in a relationship and their marriage had reportedly been fixed. During the relationship, the accused secretly recorded the woman’s intimate photos and videos.
However, after the marriage was called off, the accused allegedly became vindictive and planned to circulate the woman’s private and obscene content online. He also allegedly threatened to make the content viral on social media if she married someone else.
Investigation and Arrest
Police said the accused later created a fake Instagram account and uploaded the objectionable photos and videos. Following a complaint lodged by the victim, Sambalpur cyber police registered a case in March and launched an investigation.
Using technical surveillance and digital investigation methods, police traced the fake Instagram account to the accused’s mobile number and found that he was staying in Bengaluru. A team from Sambalpur cyber police travelled to Bengaluru to apprehend him.
Accused Attempted to Flee
According to police, the man attempted to flee after learning about the police operation, but the team chased and successfully nabbed him. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime. He was later produced in a court that remanded him in judicial custody.
