Mizoram Police Arrest Two for Obscene Social Media Posts

Aizawl: Mizoram Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly uploading obscene content on social media platforms, according to an official statement released by the authorities. The investigation was initiated after law enforcement received inputs regarding obscene material being circulated online through two YouTube accounts.

The channels in question had uploaded multiple videos containing sexually explicit content that was accessible to the general public, including minors, the statement highlighted. The content was deemed obscene in nature and prima facie attracted legal provisions under Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Both sections deal with the publication and transmission of obscene material in electronic form.

Based on the findings, the cyber crime police station registered a formal case on April 26 and subsequently initiated a detailed investigation into the matter. The police identified the accused as Henry Lalrinpuia (29), a resident of Hunthar in Aizawl, and Vanlalhmangaihzuala (35), a resident of Phuldungsei village in Mamit district. Both individuals have been taken into custody and are being questioned regarding their involvement in the alleged offenses.
