Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday felicitated three girl students who secured the top three positions in the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class 12 results. The chief minister honored Supneet Kaur from Mansa, and Suhani Chauhan and Divyanshi from Ludhiana, each of whom achieved a perfect score of 500 out of 500. Mann presented each student with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 in recognition of their exceptional academic performance.
Chief Minister Praises Toppers
Interacting with the students, Mann expressed immense pride and satisfaction, noting that all three toppers are national and state-level players. He said, "It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction that all three toppers are national and state-level players, which clearly shows that they are excelling in every field." He added that the toppers come from humble backgrounds and have demonstrated hard work and dedication to achieve their goals. "The Punjab government will extend full support and cooperation to them in achieving their dreams," Mann assured.
Girls Outshine Boys in Academics
Highlighting the continued outstanding performance of girls in academics, Mann remarked, "It is a matter of great pride and satisfaction for all of us that with the spread of education in society, girls have outshone boys not only in academics but in every field." He emphasized that time has proven that girls are not inferior to boys in any context, and by excelling in academics, they have demonstrated unmatched wisdom, skills, and expertise. The chief minister described this achievement as a reflection of true empowerment, stating, "This is the real empowerment of girls, which marks a new beginning for their socio-economic resurgence and the stupendous progress of Punjab and the country."
Overall Exam Statistics
Mann informed that approximately 2.65 lakh students appeared for the examinations, of which around 2.42 lakh students passed, resulting in an overall pass percentage of nearly 91.46 per cent. The pass percentage for girl students was 94.73 per cent, compared to 88.52 per cent for boys. Amritsar recorded the highest pass percentage in the state at 96 per cent. Patiala district had the highest number of merit holders, with 59 students making it to the list.
Girls Dominate Merit List
Continuing the trend of previous years, girls once again outperformed boys in the results. Out of the total 278 students in the merit list, 217 are girls, while only 61 are boys. Notably, 122 students from government schools secured positions in the merit list, accounting for more than 50 per cent of the total merit holders. Mann proudly announced that 416 government schools achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in these examinations.
Topper's Aspiration to Join IAF
During the interaction, one of the toppers expressed her desire to join the Indian Air Force as a pilot. Encouraging her, Mann advised, "Girls aspiring to join the armed forces should enrol in the Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute for Girls at SAS Nagar, Mohali." The institute provides specialized training to prepare girls for careers in the defense forces.
