The Punjab government is bolstering security measures at all National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026 examination centres ahead of the re-examination scheduled for June 21. The move follows the cancellation of the May 3 exam due to paper leaks.
NTA Directs Enhanced Police Deployment
The Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), Abhishek Singh, has written to chief secretaries of all states, requesting adequate police personnel at every examination centre. In Punjab, confidential examination materials will first arrive in Chandigarh, with strict security protocols in place.
Security Measures for OMR Sheets and Transport
The state has been instructed to provide comprehensive security cover at all custodian banks storing OMR sheets before the exam. Additionally, police escorts will accompany the movement of sensitive materials between banks and examination centres to prevent any tampering.
District-Level Preparations
Administrative Secretary (Education) Sonali Giri held a detailed meeting with district administration heads and Education Department officials on Thursday. Instructions were issued for thorough inspection of examination centres and stringent frisking of suspicious candidates before and during the test.
Advance Review and Vigilance
Earlier communications emphasized an advance review of centres, appropriate law-and-order arrangements, crowd management, and vigilance against organized malpractice. Authorities are also monitoring sensitive locations and online platforms closely.
Standardized Transport for Question Papers
In a June 11 communication, district administrations were asked to ensure availability of vehicles for question paper transport. The NTA noted that non-standardized vehicles used in the past left scope for leakage, prompting this directive.
These measures aim to ensure a fair and secure examination process for undergraduate medical admissions.
