Hyderabad: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA), in a joint operation with the Prohibition and Excise Department, recently uncovered the illegal sale of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in Prashanthi Nagar, Kukatpally.
Raid Details
During the raid at a facility operating as Synix Labs, officials discovered that APIs were allegedly being sold without a valid drug license. The DCA seized 170 grams of zidovudine, an antiviral drug used in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, along with purchase and sale invoices related to API transactions.
Legal Consequences
“Samples have been collected for analysis, and further investigation is underway. Action will be taken against those responsible. The sale of APIs without a valid license is punishable with imprisonment of up to five years under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act,” an official stated.
The operation highlights the ongoing efforts by regulatory authorities to curb the unauthorized distribution of pharmaceutical ingredients, which poses serious risks to public health. The DCA has urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to drug sales.
This raid is part of a broader crackdown on illegal pharmaceutical operations in the state. Authorities are now analyzing the seized samples and tracing the supply chain to identify all parties involved.
