MUMBAI: The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) recorded a significant uptick in May 2026, with transaction volumes climbing to 2,320 crore from 2,235 crore in April. The value of these transactions also saw an increase, reaching Rs 29.9 lakh crore compared to Rs 29 lakh crore in the previous month. This translates to a robust 24% year-on-year growth in volume and a 19% increase in value.
Average Daily Metrics
Average daily transactions stood at 74.8 crore in May, up from 74.5 crore in April. However, the average daily value declined slightly to Rs 96,465 crore from Rs 96,766 crore, despite the overall monthly gains in both volume and value.
National Electronic Toll Collection Performance
The National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) system also showed positive momentum. Transactions increased to 37.5 crore in May from 35.8 crore in April, while the value rose to Rs 7,308 crore from Rs 7,025 crore. This represents a month-on-month growth of 4.8% in volume and 4% in value. On a year-on-year basis, NETC volume fell by 7%, following a 6% decline in April, while value grew by 3%.
