Industrialist Gautam Adani has inaugurated a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence centre in Baramati, Maharashtra, making a bold declaration about the future of technology. He stated that the 'seeds of tomorrow will be sown in algorithms', underscoring the critical role of AI in shaping India's next phase of growth.

Speaking at the launch event on Thursday, the chairman of the Adani Group framed artificial intelligence as the most transformative technology of our era. He emphasized that India's vast data resources and talent pool position it uniquely to become a global leader in this field. Adani highlighted that AI is no longer just a tool for efficiency but is becoming the foundational bedrock for future economic development and national security.
The new facility, known as the Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence, is situated in Baramati, the political stronghold of Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar. The event was attended by prominent figures including Pawar's daughter and Lok Sabha MP, Supriya Sule, and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, reflecting the project's cross-party significance.
Baramati: From Agriculture to an AI Hub
The choice of Baramati for this advanced tech hub is symbolic. Adani noted the location's journey from being an agricultural heartland to now hosting a centre for cutting-edge algorithmic research. He connected this transformation to India's broader digital journey, referencing the foundational role played by the Adani-Connex joint venture in building the country's data centre infrastructure.
'We are at the cusp of a new era,' Adani proclaimed, drawing a parallel between the industrial revolution and the current AI revolution. He stressed that mastering AI is imperative for India to ensure its economic sovereignty and compete on the world stage. The centre is expected to focus on applied AI research in areas crucial to India's development, such as agriculture, healthcare, logistics, and climate modeling.
Building on Digital Infrastructure Foundations
Adani provided context by tracing the digital infrastructure build-up over the past decade. He credited initiatives like Aadhaar and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for creating a unique digital identity and transaction framework for millions of Indians. This, he argued, has generated an unprecedented volume of data that can now be leveraged responsibly through AI for public good.
The industrialist also pointed to the group's own investments in this domain. He mentioned that the Adani Group has been a pioneer in building green data centres across the country, which form the physical backbone required to process AI workloads sustainably. The Baramati AI centre is seen as the next logical step, moving from infrastructure provision to core innovation and algorithm development.
The launch event saw a convergence of politics and business, with leaders acknowledging the importance of public-private partnerships in tech.
