Delhi Government Accelerates Infrastructure Upgrades Ahead of AI Summit 2026
The Delhi government has initiated a rapid infrastructure enhancement program in preparation for the upcoming India Artificial Intelligence (AI) Impact Summit 2026. Scheduled to take place from February 16 to 20, the summit has prompted authorities to fast-track upgrades at key roundabouts and public spaces across the capital. The goal is to complete all improvements within a month, focusing on lighting, aesthetics, and efficient execution to present a polished and visitor-friendly city.
First Site: Hyatt Regency Roundabout in Southwest Delhi
One of the initial sites selected for enhancement is the roundabout near Hyatt Regency in southwest Delhi. The Public Works Department (PWD) has allocated Rs 22.78 lakh for this project. Officials emphasize that the primary objectives are to boost the junction's visual appeal and improve night visibility. This location is particularly significant as it lies along a crucial corridor frequently used by both residents and visiting delegates.
Focus on Aesthetics and Safety
The proposed work at the Hyatt Regency roundabout will concentrate on both aesthetics and safety. Plans include installing decorative fountains and color-changing LED lights on the central island. Additionally, bollard lights will be placed along the periphery to illuminate dark stretches, enhancing safety for motorists and pedestrians alike.
Broader Citywide Push Linked to AI Summit
PWD officials have clarified that this upgrade is part of a larger citywide initiative directly connected to the AI summit. The event will be hosted at various venues across Delhi, with the main inauguration scheduled for February 19 at Bharat Mandapam. Numerous bilateral meetings and side events are also on the agenda, underscoring the need for a well-prepared urban environment.
Comprehensive Infrastructure Improvements
Beyond roundabout enhancements, the PWD has been assigned additional tasks to ensure the city's infrastructure meets international standards. These include repairing potholes, fixing damaged footpaths and central verges, replacing missing signage, and addressing broken grilles along key routes expected to be utilized by delegates. Furthermore, sculptures and fountains are being installed at select locations to elevate the city's aesthetic appeal.
The concerted efforts by the Delhi government reflect a strategic approach to hosting a major international event, aiming to showcase the capital as a modern, safe, and welcoming destination for global participants.
