In a significant move to modernize law enforcement, the Hisar Police in Haryana has launched a comprehensive training initiative focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital skills for its personnel. This program aims to equip the police force with the tools needed for contemporary policing challenges.
Embracing AI and Technology for Modern Policing
Hisar Superintendent of Police Shashank Kumar Sawan announced on Monday that the district police training centre has developed 18 specialized training courses. A total of 2,922 police personnel have successfully completed various modules under this initiative, with some individuals undergoing training in more than one course.
The core objective is to ensure every police officer, regardless of their formal educational background, can understand and apply AI tools like ChatGPT in their daily duties. To achieve this, the course material has been prepared in simple language with step-by-step modules designed to build professional competence and confidence.
Comprehensive Curriculum Beyond AI
The training goes beyond just artificial intelligence. The curriculum is extensive and includes:
- English grammar and typing skills.
- Preparation of key legal documents like FIR applications, arrest memos, seizure memos, witness lists, challans, and notices under Sections 35 and 35(3) of the new Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
- Handling of electronic evidence and maintaining case diaries.
- Procedures for preparing rukkas and Medico-Legal Cases (MLCs).
- Training on using various specialized police software applications.
Furthermore, personnel are receiving instruction on important legal frameworks including:
- The SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Rules.
- The Juvenile Justice Act and JJ Model Rules.
- The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
- The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
- Technical skills like fingerprinting and basic vehicle maintenance.
Specialized Training for Emergency Response
Recognizing the critical role of first responders, the training program also dedicates modules for Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) staff. This includes vital skills in:
- First aid and safe procedures for transporting accident victims to hospitals.
- Effective use of cameras and area patrolling techniques.
- Preparing necessary checklists and arrest forms in strict compliance with the Supreme Court's guidelines from the Arnesh Kumar judgment, which safeguards against arbitrary arrests.
This holistic training push by the Hisar Police marks a proactive step towards integrating technology with traditional policing. By empowering its personnel with AI knowledge, digital literacy, and updated legal expertise, the force is positioning itself to be more efficient, transparent, and effective in serving the community in the digital age.
