India AI Expo 2026 Extended, Closed Feb 19 for Summit

India AI Expo 2026 Schedule Altered to Manage Crowds and Host Diplomatic Events

In a significant move to handle unprecedented visitor numbers and facilitate high-level diplomatic engagements, the government has announced a major revision to the schedule of the India AI Expo 2026. The exhibition, currently taking place at Bharat Mandapam, will be closed to the general public on Thursday, February 19. To compensate for this closure, authorities have officially extended the expo by an additional day, meaning it will now remain open until Saturday, February 21.

Extension Due to Overwhelming Public Enthusiasm

S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), confirmed the decision, stating, "The expo has been extended by a day due to huge enthusiasm." He emphasized that this adjustment aims to ensure a smoother and more comfortable experience for the tens of thousands of visitors eager to explore the latest advancements in artificial intelligence. In addition to the extra day, daily visiting hours have been extended until 8:00 pm to further accommodate the crowds.

Reason for Closure on February 19

The closure on February 19 is necessitated by a series of restricted-access events involving world leaders and stringent security protocols. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to officially inaugurate the India AI Impact Summit on the morning of that day. The agenda is packed with high-stakes diplomacy and industrial strategy discussions.

Key events include:

  • Addresses by PM Modi, the President of France, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
  • A private walkthrough of the pavilions by the PM and visiting Heads of State at 11:00 am.
  • A noon meeting focused on global AI governance and infrastructure.
  • An evening session at 5:30 pm connecting government leaders with top tech executives.

Scale of the India AI Impact Summit

The Summit will bring together an impressive assembly of over 500 global AI leaders, including:

  1. Approximately 100 CEOs and Founders.
  2. Around 150 Academicians and Researchers.
  3. About 400 CTOs, VPs, and Philanthropists.

It will also engage more than 100 government representatives, featuring over 20 Heads of State and Government, along with nearly 60 Ministers and Vice Ministers. This gathering underscores the expo's role as a pivotal platform for shaping the future of artificial intelligence on a global scale.

The revised schedule reflects the government's commitment to balancing public access with the demands of international diplomacy, ensuring that both visitors and dignitaries can fully participate in this landmark event.
