Karnataka Government Approves Rs 20 Crore AI Centre in Bengaluru to Accelerate Tech Adoption
In a significant move aimed at fast-tracking the integration of artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0 innovations, and digital transformation across various sectors, the Karnataka state government has given its approval for the establishment of the Centre for Applied AI for Tech Solutions (CATS). This new facility will be located at the Keonics premises in HSR Layout, situated in the eastern part of Bengaluru.
Strategic Partnership and Funding Model
The centre is being set up through a collaborative partnership with Nasscom, with a total financial outlay of Rs 20 crore spread over a period of four years. The funding structure follows a 40:40:20 model, which includes contributions from the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Karnataka state government, and various industry partners. This balanced approach ensures shared responsibility and investment in fostering technological advancements.
Focus Areas and Objectives
CATS will concentrate on several priority domains, including artificial intelligence, robotics and automation, supply chain optimisation, and comprehensive digital transformation. The centre is designed to cater to both established industries and the vibrant startup ecosystem, providing them with the necessary tools and resources to innovate and scale.
IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge emphasised the importance of this initiative, stating, "This is Karnataka's deep-tech decade, and the CATS AI centre of excellence will serve as a launchpad for deep-tech start-ups and industry collaborations. By bringing government, academia, and industry together, we are creating a strong pipeline from research to market-ready innovation."
Performance Tracking and Growth Targets
To ensure the centre's effectiveness and accountability, its performance will be monitored through clearly defined key performance indicators. These metrics will include the number of startups incubated, prototypes developed, intellectual property filings, industry partnerships established, and skilled professionals trained. Additionally, year-wise growth targets will be set to drive measurable and outcome-oriented progress, ensuring that the centre delivers tangible results in line with its mission.
This initiative underscores Karnataka's commitment to positioning itself as a leader in technological innovation, leveraging artificial intelligence and digital solutions to drive economic growth and competitiveness in the global market.
