Education Ministry Official Calls for Advanced AI Use in Academia

Armstrong Pame, Joint Secretary of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has urged students and educators to transcend the fundamental applications of artificial intelligence tools. Speaking at the inauguration of the Agentic AI Saksham Workshop hosted by Bangalore University, Pame emphasized that AI should be leveraged for in-depth research, exploration, and the creation of new knowledge, rather than merely for browsing or superficial tasks.

Emphasis on Meaningful Innovation Through AI

"Effective use of AI by students and teachers can lead to meaningful innovations in the future," Pame stated during his address. He highlighted that the strategic adoption of artificial intelligence in educational settings has the potential to drive significant advancements and foster a culture of creativity and problem-solving. This call to action aligns with the government's broader initiatives to integrate technology into the education sector, enhancing learning outcomes and preparing the youth for a technology-driven world.

Higher Education Officials Stress AI Adoption

Khushboo G Choudhary, Principal Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, also addressed the inaugural session, underscoring the critical role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future. She pointed out that in today's rapidly evolving global landscape, it is imperative for both students and teachers to not only understand but also actively embrace emerging technologies. Choudhary encouraged students to approach AI without fear, advocating for its responsible and effective utilization in learning, research, and innovation endeavors.

She further noted that continuous learning and adaptation to new technological developments are essential for building confidence and equipping students to tackle future challenges successfully. This perspective reinforces the need for educational institutions to update their curricula and training programs to include AI literacy and hands-on experience.

University Leadership Highlights AI Opportunities

Jayakara S M, Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, echoed these sentiments by highlighting that artificial intelligence is generating unprecedented opportunities across various fields. He stressed that students must proactively acquire relevant skills to shape their own futures and remain competitive in the job market. The workshop, designed to facilitate this skill development, provided comprehensive training in several key areas, including prompt engineering, website development, and system development.

Hands-On Training with AI Tools

Participants at the Agentic AI Saksham Workshop received practical, hands-on experience with a diverse array of artificial intelligence tools. These included:

  • NotebookLM for enhanced note-taking and analysis
  • Canvas for creative design and visualization
  • Lovable for user interface development
  • Google Studio for data processing and analytics
  • n8n for workflow automation
  • Gamma for advanced computational tasks

This immersive training enabled students to gain valuable practical skills in the field of artificial intelligence, preparing them for real-world applications and innovative projects. The workshop's focus on experiential learning aligns with the broader goal of fostering a generation of tech-savvy individuals capable of driving India's digital transformation.

The collective message from the officials was clear: embracing artificial intelligence responsibly and moving beyond its basic uses can empower students and educators to contribute significantly to innovation and knowledge creation, ultimately benefiting society at large.
