The Congress party on Tuesday launched a fresh attack on the Narendra Modi-led government, accusing it of a major data breach involving the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) answer sheets. In a press conference, Congress leaders termed the incident as yet another scandal under the 'Ministry of Scandals' run by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a thorough investigation and accountability.
CBSE Answer Sheets Data Breach Details
According to the Congress, the breach exposed sensitive information of students, including their answer sheets and personal details. The party claimed that this was a grave violation of privacy and could potentially affect the academic future of thousands of students. The opposition party alleged that the government has been negligent in safeguarding student data, pointing to previous incidents of data leaks in various government portals.
Congress's Allegations Against the Government
Senior Congress leader and former minister P. Chidambaram said, 'This is not just a data breach; it is a breach of trust. The Modi government has turned every ministry into a ministry of scandals, from Rafale to Pegasus, and now CBSE answer sheets.' The party demanded that the government come clean on the extent of the breach and take immediate steps to secure student data. They also called for the resignation of the Education Minister, holding him responsible for the lapse.
Government's Response
The Ministry of Education, however, denied any large-scale breach, stating that only a limited number of answer sheets were compromised due to a technical glitch. Officials said that the matter is being investigated and necessary security measures are being implemented. The CBSE has also issued a statement assuring students that their data is safe and that the board is working with cybersecurity experts to prevent future incidents.
Political Implications
The controversy has added fuel to the ongoing political battle between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress ahead of upcoming state elections. The Congress is using the issue to paint the Modi government as incompetent and corrupt, while the BJP has dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. The data breach has also raised concerns among parents and students, who are demanding stricter data protection laws in the education sector.
As the debate rages on, cybersecurity experts have cautioned that such breaches can have long-term consequences, including identity theft and fraud. They have urged the government to adopt a more proactive approach to data security, especially in institutions handling sensitive information of minors. The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerabilities in India's digital infrastructure, prompting calls for a comprehensive data protection framework.
