IIT Kanpur's Cybersecurity Hub Concludes Major Global Hackathon with Impressive Turnout
The Cybersecurity Technology Innovation Hub (C3iHub) at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur has officially announced the winners of the HACK IITK Global Cyber Security Hackathon 2026, successfully concluding the two-day Grand Finale event. This prestigious competition focused on the crucial theme of Critical Infrastructure Security, drawing significant attention from the global cybersecurity community.
Massive Participation and Competitive Structure
The hackathon witnessed an overwhelming response with more than 9,000 registrations from cybersecurity enthusiasts and professionals worldwide. From this massive pool, only 48 elite teams demonstrated exceptional skills to advance to the highly competitive Grand Finale. The event was structured around two major competitive tracks designed to test different aspects of cybersecurity expertise.
Solution Track Champions and Their Achievements
In the Solution Track, which focused on developing practical cybersecurity solutions, Team Shadow Byte from the Army Institute of Technology in Pune emerged victorious, securing the first prize of Rs 3 lakhs. The second position was claimed by Team Nite Meowls from Manipal Institute of Technology, who received Rs 2 lakhs. The third prize of Rs 1 lakh was awarded to Team Blind Coders from Fr Conceicao Rodrigues Institute of Technology in Vashi, Navi Mumbai.
Capture The Flag Track Winners
The Capture The Flag (CTF) Track presented participants with an intense 12-hour overnight cybersecurity challenge that tested their endurance and technical prowess. Team Cute Cat from Rashtriya Raksha University in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, demonstrated exceptional skills to win the first prize of Rs 3 lakhs. They were followed by Team Diggaj, also from Rashtriya Raksha University, who secured the second position. Team EHAX from Delhi Technological University (DTU) earned the third prize of Rs 1 lakh.
Special Recognition Awards
Beyond the main competition prizes, two teams received special recognition for their outstanding contributions. Team VNITx was honored with the Best Innovative Solution Award, while Team Valium Research received the Best CTF Approach Award for their strategic excellence in the Capture The Flag competition.

The awards were presented by Mayur Maheshwari, IAS, who serves as the managing director of both UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited and UP Power Transmission Corporation Limited. The ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests including:

Teams demonstrated remarkable technical expertise by solving complex problem statements in the Solution Track, including:
- Local LLM Powered Policy Gap Analysis: Developing modules capable of autonomously identifying and improving security policy discrepancies
- Post-Quantum Cryptography: Implementing Secure OpenID Connect using KEMTLS to protect systems against future quantum computing threats
- AI Agent Security: Engineering robust defenses for voice and multimodal AI agents against deepfakes and prompt injection attacks
- GenTwin Technology: Leveraging Generative AI and Digital Twins to simulate industrial environments and uncover hidden cybersecurity vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure systems
