A youth was arrested in Guwahati for allegedly posting objectionable remarks against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on social media. The incident sparked outrage in the Sonai area of Cachar district. The accused, identified as Titu Laskar, a resident of Sonai, made the post on Saturday, according to police. The post quickly went viral, leading to communal tension and drawing strong reactions from local residents.
Complaint and Investigation
In response to the post, Saharul Alam Sheikh, the vice-chairman of the Sonai Municipal Board, filed a formal written complaint at the Sonai police station, requesting legal action. Based on the complaint, a case was registered, and an investigation was launched. Using digital surveillance, investigators traced the accused to Guwahati.
Arrest and Interrogation
The accused was brought back to Sonai on Wednesday. Police officials confirmed that Laskar is currently being interrogated. Authorities are examining the post and its impact on public order.
