The Hoshiarpur Forest Division has set an ambitious target of planting 6.5 lakh saplings during the current plantation season. To enhance green cover and encourage tree planting, the department plans to develop 60 Miyawaki forests named 'Nanak Bagichi' across the district, along with a memorial forest.
DFO Highlights Plantation Drive
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Dharmveer Dheru shared these details on the sidelines of a Van Mahotsav programme. After planting a sapling, he urged people to utilize the monsoon season effectively and plant as many trees as possible.
Dheru stated that the Forest Department has prepared around 30 lakh saplings in its nurseries. These plants will be provided to social organizations, educational institutions, environmental groups, and nature lovers interested in joining the plantation drive. Interested parties can contact Forest Department offices or place demands through the government website.
Reduced Price to Boost Participation
To encourage more plantation, the government has reduced the price of saplings to just Rs 2. This move aims to make plants affordable for everyone and motivate greater participation in the drive.
The DFO emphasized that planting trees is crucial for a clean and healthy environment. However, he stressed that responsibility does not end with planting; people must also care for the plants by watering and protecting them to ensure they grow into healthy trees. He urged forest officials and staff to spread awareness about the importance of tree planting.
