In a move to enhance waste management in Hyderabad, G Srijana, the Commissioner of Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), has ordered the effective implementation of four-way waste segregation. The segregation covers dry waste, wet waste, sanitary waste, and special care waste. Additionally, she mandated strict enforcement of the 'No bin – no trade' policy and called for greater accountability in waste disposal practices.
Strengthening Sanitation Services
During a review meeting, the commissioner directed officials to further strengthen sanitation services in all wards under the CMC jurisdiction. She emphasized the need for continuous field-level monitoring to ensure the effective implementation of sanitation activities. Maintaining high sanitation standards and improving service delivery across the city were highlighted as key priorities.
Daily Operations and Monitoring
The commissioner instructed officials to ensure the daily operation of Swachh auto tippers, which are used for waste collection. She also ordered the identification of sanitation workers who have been absent from duty for extended periods. To enforce compliance, officers are required to submit daily reports on fines imposed in accordance with government guidelines.
Awareness Campaigns and Action Plans
Extensive awareness campaigns are to be conducted to educate residents, commercial establishments, and other stakeholders about proper waste segregation practices. The commissioner directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan for the deployment and utilization of sanitation personnel to enhance sanitation services. Furthermore, she suggested examining proposals for efficient collection and management of construction and demolition (C&D) waste and other bulk waste through on-call and scheduled collection services.
Adherence to Solid Waste Management Rules
During the review, the commissioner briefed officials on the provisions of the solid waste management rules. All field-level officers and staff have been instructed to strictly adhere to the responsibilities, procedures, and waste management standards prescribed under the rules. This directive aims to ensure systematic and effective waste management across the city.
