Hyderabad: Commuters and residents have been facing persistent inconvenience for nearly a month due to ongoing pipeline works on Road No. 12 near Kamaan, opposite the ministers' quarters. A stretch of about 1 km has been dug up, leaving the road badly damaged and devoid of proper footpaths, resulting in severe disruption to both vehicular and pedestrian movement.
Daily Commute Becomes a Nightmare
Locals said the situation worsens during peak evening hours, when traffic congestion becomes a daily ordeal. A daily commuter, Ramesh Kumar, said, "This stretch has become a nightmare. What used to take five minutes now takes at least 20. Every evening, traffic comes to a standstill, and there is no proper management on the ground."
Impact on Local Businesses
Local shopkeepers are also bearing the brunt of the prolonged works. Mohammed Saleem, who runs a small grocery shop along the stretch, said the ongoing construction has affected business too. "Customers avoid this road because of the dust and congestion. With large portions of the road excavated and left uneven, vehicles are frequently getting stuck. Day before only, an auto got stuck, and it led to a huge traffic jam," he added.
Health and Safety Concerns
Apart from traffic issues, dust pollution from the construction site has added to the discomfort of residents living nearby. Anita Reddy, a resident of the area, expressed concern over health and safety. "There is dust everywhere, and walking has become risky as the footpath has also got damaged. It is surprising that such conditions exist in a VIP area," she added.
Calls for Expedited Work
Despite the location being in close proximity to the minister quarters, locals say there has been little visible progress in expediting the work. Residents have urged the authorities concerned to complete the drainage pipeline project at the earliest. The prolonged disruption has not only hampered daily life but also raised questions about the efficiency of civic management in the area.
