BYD Refreshes Atto 3 as Atto 3 Evo with Major Upgrades for Global Rollout

Leading electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has officially unveiled the refreshed version of its popular Atto 3 electric SUV, now rebranded as the Atto 3 Evo. This updated model introduces a host of significant enhancements, including a larger battery pack for improved driving range, along with advanced technology and feature upgrades. The new e-SUV has been revealed for global markets, with an India launch anticipated later this year. Upon its arrival, it will continue to compete with rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta EV, and Harrier EV in the competitive electric SUV segment.

Enhanced Battery and Performance Specifications

At the heart of the Atto 3 Evo is a larger 74.8kWh battery pack, a substantial increase from the previous 60.5kWh unit. This upgrade delivers a WLTP-rated range of 510km, marking an improvement of 92km over the earlier 418km figure. The updated model also features a repositioned motor that produces 313hp and 380Nm of torque, representing gains of 109hp and 70Nm compared to the previous front-wheel-drive setup. BYD claims a 0–100kph acceleration time of 5.5 seconds, which is 1.8 seconds quicker than before, while the top speed is rated at 180kph.

All-Wheel-Drive Variant and Charging Capabilities

For those seeking even higher performance, the Atto 3 Evo AWD variant utilizes the same battery pack but delivers elevated outputs of 449hp and 560Nm. This version accelerates from 0–100kph in a claimed 3.9 seconds and achieves a top speed of 200kph, though the WLTP range decreases to 470km. Notably, the Atto 3 Evo incorporates an 800V electrical architecture, which raises the peak charging capacity from 88kW to 220kW. This allows the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 25 minutes. Additionally, the new battery adds vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, enabling it to power external devices at up to 3kW.

Design and Suspension Updates

Externally, the Atto 3 Evo retains the same design as the outgoing model, with the only visible change being newly designed multi-spoke alloy wheels. However, significant improvements have been made to the suspension system, as the Atto 3 Evo now features a five-link rear suspension, replacing the earlier four-link arrangement. These changes are complemented by an increase in boot capacity to 490 litres, along with the addition of a 101-litre frunk under the bonnet, enhancing practicality and storage options.

Interior Technology and Features

Inside, the Atto 3 Evo maintains the same interior layout but introduces updated technology. It comes equipped with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen that integrates Google services. The gear selector has been relocated to the steering column, freeing up additional space in the centre console. Higher variants add premium features such as a head-up display and heated rear seats, while a comprehensive set of driver assistance and safety systems is offered as standard across all models.
