Just weeks after unveiling its flagship OnePlus 15, OnePlus has officially confirmed the imminent arrival of the OnePlus 15R in the Indian market. The upcoming device is set to make waves as one of the first smartphones to ship with Android 16 out of the box, running the customized OxygenOS 16 interface.
Design Changes and Key Features
The OnePlus 15R marks a significant design departure from its predecessor by eliminating the iconic alert slider. Instead, the device will feature the innovative Plus Key - a multi-functional button that enables users to perform various tasks with simple taps. This versatile key can be programmed to change volume profiles, capture photos, initiate recording, and activate the Plus Mind memory capture feature.
While the previous OnePlus 13R lacked Hasselblad camera branding, it remains uncertain whether the 15R will incorporate OnePlus's new DetailMax Engine technology. The camera setup could represent a notable downgrade compared to earlier models that included telephoto lenses.
Expected Specifications and Performance
Although OnePlus hasn't officially detailed the Indian variant specifications, industry insiders suggest the device will mirror the recently launched OnePlus Ace 6 in China. The expected specifications include a 6.83-inch 1.5K LTPS AMOLED display with an impressive 165Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and gaming.
The device is likely to share the same robust water and dust resistance ratings as the flagship OnePlus 15, featuring IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K certifications. Camera capabilities are projected to include a 50MP primary sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 16MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.
Battery and Charging Capabilities
Powering the OnePlus 15R will be a massive 7,800mAh battery - one of the largest in its class. The device supports 120W wired fast charging, enabling rapid power top-ups. However, continuing the company's tradition for its R-series lineup, wireless charging support will likely be absent from this year's model as well.
The Chinese variant, OnePlus Ace 6, starts at 2,599 yuan (approximately ₹32,000), representing a 300 yuan increase over its predecessor. Given OnePlus's recent trend of price adjustments for its flagship models, the Indian version of the OnePlus 15R is expected to see a similar price hike. Industry analysts project the device will launch at around ₹45,000, compared to the ₹42,999 starting price of its predecessor.
This strategic pricing positions the OnePlus 15R in a competitive segment of the Indian smartphone market, offering premium features while maintaining the brand's reputation for value-oriented performance. The confirmation of Android 16 integration from launch day provides early adopters with access to the latest software innovations and security updates.
