The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has announced the addition of new facilities at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sports Complex in Mavdi, giving a significant boost to the city's sporting ecosystem. The upgraded complex will now offer squash, table tennis, and shooting, creating fresh opportunities for young athletes to train in widely played national and international sports.
Existing and New Facilities
The complex, operated by the Rajkot Sports Promotion Foundation—a special purpose vehicle (SPV) jointly managed by the RMC and the Sports Authority of Gujarat—already runs coaching programmes and memberships for badminton, volleyball, basketball, and kabaddi, along with two lawn tennis courts. The addition of squash, table tennis, and shooting expands the range of sports available to enthusiasts.
Rollout and Registration Details
According to the RMC, the new facilities and programmes will be rolled out from May 1. Under the revised structure, quarterly memberships will be available for squash and table tennis, while specialised coaching batches will be introduced for shooting. Fresh monthly coaching batches, led by experienced trainers, will also commence for existing disciplines including badminton, lawn tennis, volleyball, basketball, and kabaddi. Registrations for all quarterly memberships and monthly coaching batches will open from today. To ensure accessibility, the RMC has enabled both online and offline registration. Citizens can also enrol in person at civic centres and ward offices across the city.
Objective and Encouragement
The civic body said the initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen sports culture, improve youth fitness, and enhance competitive exposure by providing quality infrastructure within the city. It has urged sports enthusiasts, students, and aspiring athletes to register early and make the most of these facilities.
