Rourkela: In a remarkable achievement, Sanghamitra Sahoo, the daughter of a door-to-door broom seller, has topped her school in the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) +2 science examination with an impressive 95.17 percent. Despite her outstanding academic performance, financial constraints may pose a challenge to her dream of becoming a doctor.
A Star Student from Modest Beginnings
Sanghamitra, a student of Government Higher Secondary School in Rourkela, secured 571 out of 600 marks, earning a first division in the results announced on Wednesday. She resides with her parents and younger brother in Ram Nagar near Jail Road. Her father, Madhusudan Sahoo, earns a meager living by selling brooms, while her mother, Arundhati, is a homemaker. Despite these humble circumstances, Sanghamitra has consistently excelled in her studies.
Dedication and Hard Work Pay Off
Expressing her happiness, Sanghamitra said, "I am satisfied with my results, although I anticipated higher marks in mathematics. I used to study for four hours daily and up to 16 hours during exams. My hard work has yielded results. I credit my parents, teachers, and principal for my success." Her disciplined approach and determination have been key to her achievements.
Aspiring to Be a Doctor Amid Financial Hurdles
Sanghamitra aims to crack the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and pursue a career in medicine. However, she is worried about the high cost of coaching. "Coaching is expensive, and my father's income is very limited. I am unsure how I will manage it," she said. Despite suggestions to prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for engineering, she remains focused on medicine. She had appeared for NEET this year through self-study, but the exam was canceled due to a paper leak and rescheduled for June 21.
Family Support and Concerns
Her mother echoed these concerns, stating, "We are proud of her achievement, but we are worried about arranging funds for NEET coaching. We want to support her dream, but our financial condition is a constraint." The family's limited resources make it difficult to afford the necessary preparation.
Alternative Plans
If unable to pursue medicine, Sanghamitra said she would continue with higher studies in science. Her resilience and determination suggest that she will overcome obstacles to achieve her goals.
