In a significant advancement for India's defence technology, a high-calibre bomb was successfully tested on Sunday at the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), a facility of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) located in Ramgarh, Haryana's Panchkula district.
Successful Trial with Strict Safety Protocols
According to officials, the trial was executed successfully in strict adherence to established safety protocols. The test was conducted with comprehensive security arrangements and under the supervision of senior air force officials. Defence experts believe such trials are crucial for improving India's precision strike and battlefield capabilities while supporting future weapons development programmes.
Security Measures and Surveillance
As part of the security protocol, special surveillance was maintained in the surrounding areas. The TBRL had previously cautioned that bomb fragments could fly up to a height of 1.5 kilometres and spread over a radius of 2 kilometres from the detonation site. All necessary precautions were taken to ensure the safety of personnel and the environment.
Role of Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory
A DRDO establishment under its armaments cluster, the TBRL is engaged in the ballistic evaluation of warheads and projectiles. It conducts research in high explosives, detonics, shock waves, and assessing the terminal effects of ammunition. This successful test underscores the laboratory's critical role in advancing India's defence capabilities.
