The authority has successfully secured four prestigious Guinness World Records during the ongoing development of the crucial Bengaluru-Vijayawada highway stretch. The records were set on the National Highway 16 (NH-16), which is a key segment of the massive Bharatmala Pariyojana. The specific location was the segment between the Chilamakur and Ongole segments in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district. The project, executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), witnessed these extraordinary attempts on March 9, 2024.
The most staggering record involved laying the longest continuously laid bituminous concrete lane. An astounding 75 kilometres of a single lane was paved in a non-stop operation. This marathon effort required the synchronized work of a massive fleet, including 80 bitumen trucks, 60 dumpers, 12 pavers, and 15 rollers. The operation was completed in a record time of 105 hours and 33 minutes, involving over 720 dedicated workers and engineers.
Multiple Records in a Single Project
Beyond the longest lane, NHAI clinched three other titles, demonstrating multifaceted excellence. The second record was for the longest continuously laid bituminous concrete for an entire carriageway. Here, the team paved a 25.5-kilometre stretch of two-lane carriageway in one continuous pour.
The third record highlighted logistical mastery, recognizing the largest number of trucks for a bituminous concrete laying project. The fourth and final Guinness World Record was set for achieving the highest altitude for a bituminous concrete road in the country, specifically at the Krishnagiri forest area in Andhra Pradesh at an elevation of 1,060 feet above sea level.
