In a tragic incident at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in Mysuru, 11 patients died within a span of 24 hours. The hospital authorities have attributed the deaths to delayed admissions, which led to an overwhelming burden on the intensive care unit (ICU).
ICU Overcapacity Leads to Fatalities
The institute, which has a capacity to handle only 18 patients in its ICU, was forced to manage 25 critical cases simultaneously. This overcapacity situation resulted in the death of 11 patients, as the medical staff struggled to provide adequate care to all.
Hospital Statement on the Incident
Officials from the institute stated that many of the patients were brought in at a very advanced stage of their illnesses, making it difficult to save them despite best efforts. The hospital emphasized that the delayed reporting by patients or their families played a significant role in the unfortunate outcome.
The institute has assured that an internal inquiry is underway to review the circumstances and improve emergency response protocols. Meanwhile, health authorities in Mysuru have been alerted to ensure better coordination for critical care referrals.
