Jalandhar Police Crack Down on Drug Trafficking
In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Jalandhar police have arrested five individuals and seized 10 kilograms of poppy husk. The arrests were made during a special drive aimed at curbing the illegal drug trade in the region.
Details of the Operation
The police team, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a vehicle near the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway. Upon searching the vehicle, they recovered 10 kg of poppy husk concealed in secret compartments. The five occupants were immediately taken into custody. Preliminary investigations suggest that the contraband was being transported from a neighboring state for distribution in local markets.
Accused Interrogated
The accused have been identified as residents of different districts in Punjab. They are being interrogated to trace the supply chain and identify other members of the network. The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at a local police station.
Police Commitment to Drug-Free Punjab
Senior police officials have reiterated their commitment to making Punjab a drug-free state. They have urged citizens to cooperate by providing information about any suspicious activities. The operation is part of a larger crackdown on drug peddlers and smugglers in the region.
The seizure of poppy husk is a major blow to the drug trade in Jalandhar. Further investigations are underway to uncover the broader network involved in the illegal drug trade.
