In a major operation, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of Udaipur rescued seventy child labourers from Surat city in Gujarat on Thursday. The children, all hailing from Udaipur district, were working in various establishments in Surat.

Coordinated Rescue Operation

Acting on specific intelligence, the Anti-Human Trafficking Team coordinated with the Surat police to secure the release of the children. The Surat police have registered a case against the employer for employing minors in violation of child labour laws.

Police Verification and Rehabilitation

Udaipur District Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan visited the Kishori Sudhar Grih (Juvenile Correction Home) on Friday to meet the rescued children. She confirmed that all seventy children are below 14 years of age. The police have summoned the family members of the children, counselled them, and handed over the children to their families.

The Department of Child Empowerment and various voluntary organisations are now working in coordination with the police department to connect these children with education and government schemes. This initiative aims to integrate the children into the mainstream and prevent them from falling into child labour again.

Government Schemes and Education

As part of the rehabilitation process, the children will be enrolled in schools and linked to welfare schemes such as scholarships, health insurance, and skill development programs. The police have assured that strict action will be taken against those who exploit children for labour.

This rescue operation highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat child labour and human trafficking in the region.
