Ahmedabad police have apprehended 166 Bangladeshi nationals for illegally staying in India, officials said on Wednesday. The crackdown, which took place across various parts of the city, involved a large-scale operation targeting suspected illegal immigrants.
Operation Details
City Police Commissioner GS Malik stated that more than 300 suspicious individuals, including men, women, and children, were rounded up during the drive. Following verification of their documents, 166 individuals were confirmed to be Bangladeshi nationals without valid permits. They have been booked under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act and the Passport Act.
Verification Process
The police conducted thorough checks of identity documents and residential proofs. Those who failed to produce valid papers were detained for further interrogation. The operation was part of an ongoing effort to track down illegal immigrants in the city.
Authorities are coordinating with central agencies to facilitate the deportation process. The apprehended individuals are currently being held at a temporary detention center while their cases are processed.
This action underscores the government's commitment to enforcing immigration laws and maintaining national security. Similar operations are expected to continue in other parts of Gujarat and across the country.
