Visakhapatnam: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Andhra Pradesh seized more than 160 kilograms of dry cannabis and arrested six individuals in two separate incidents across the state.
First Incident: Over 100 kg Seized in Kakinada
In the first operation, law enforcement officials confiscated over 100 kilograms of dry ganja and apprehended three suspects at Pedamallapuram locality under Sankhavaram mandal in Kakinada district. The accused were attempting to transport the contraband when police intercepted them.
The arrested individuals have been identified as T Prasad and T Chandu from ASR district, and BN Raju, a native of Palnadu district. According to police, the trio had procured the cannabis from remote locations in the Malkangiri district of Odisha. To avoid detection, they transported the weed from Odisha to Kongapakala locality in Andhra Pradesh by trekking through hilly terrain. Subsequently, they moved the consignment to Pedamallapuram. While loading the cannabis into a car, police raided the spot and seized the entire stock.
Second Incident: 60 kg Seized in ASR District
In a separate operation, the Sileru police in ASR district seized 60 kilograms of cannabis and arrested three individuals near Sileru. The suspects were transporting the weed on two motorcycles when they were caught. Those arrested have been identified as Sadhu Sukri, Santhosh Killa, and Rabindra, all natives of Odisha.
Police are investigating further to trace the supply chain and other possible links in the drug network.
