Chennai Winds Force Flight Diversions, Delays

CHENNAI: Heavy winds coupled with a sudden shower in Chennai forced airport authorities to divert two flights to different airports, while arrivals and departures of several other flights were delayed.

Flight Diversions

An IndiGo ATR flight from Salem carrying around 70 passengers departed at 3:34 pm but was diverted to Tirupati as it could not land in Chennai due to heavy winds. The flight made a safe landing in Tirupati around 5:30 pm. Another IndiGo flight from Kolkata, which departed at 3:20 pm, had to abort its landing at Chennai airport around 5:15 pm and was later diverted to Trichy. It landed in Trichy at 5:45 pm.

Delayed Flights

A few other flights from Indore, Lucknow, and Hyderabad were made to hover around and had delayed landings at Chennai due to congestion of arrival flights. Similarly, flights from Chennai to destinations like Ranchi, Mysore, Goa, and Kolkata were delayed by up to two hours.
