The Noida International Airport at Jewar has commenced passenger flight operations, with the inaugural service arriving from Lucknow on 15 June 2026. This marks a significant milestone for the ambitious project aimed at enhancing air connectivity between western Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country.
First Flight Lands at Jewar
The first passenger flight, operated by a domestic carrier, touched down at the newly built airport, signaling the start of regular commercial services. The airport is expected to ease congestion at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport and provide a modern gateway for the National Capital Region.
Strategic Importance
Located in Jewar, about 75 km from Delhi, the airport is designed to handle large volumes of traffic and support economic growth in the region. It features a single runway initially, with plans for expansion to multiple runways and terminals in phases.
The Uttar Pradesh government has prioritized the project as a key infrastructure development, aiming to boost tourism, trade, and employment. The airport is also expected to improve connectivity for industrial hubs in western Uttar Pradesh, such as Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad.
Officials stated that additional routes will be added gradually, connecting major Indian cities and international destinations. The successful launch of passenger flights is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the state and central governments.
