In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Air Intelligence Unit of the customs department at Trichy International Airport seized approximately 5 kilograms of hydroponic ganja valued at around Rs 5 crore and arrested a passenger on Saturday. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, customs officials intercepted a male passenger who had arrived from Kuala Lumpur. During a thorough search of his baggage, officials recovered the contraband concealed in multiple sealed pouches. The seized substance was identified as hydroponic weed, a type of cannabis cultivated using water-based nutrients instead of traditional soil. This method of cultivation often results in higher potency and is increasingly popular among illicit growers. The passenger has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to trace the origins of the drug and any potential links to larger smuggling networks. Authorities have heightened vigilance at airports across the region to combat the illegal drug trade.
