Shimla: Following successful left knee replacement surgery earlier this week, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama was discharged from a private hospital in Delhi on Friday, doctors said.
As per a senior consultant's statement at the hospital, the 90-year-old Nobel Laureate underwent the procedure on June 8 and is expected to make a full recovery. "His Holiness is stable and expected to make a full recovery. He was discharged on Friday morning," he said.
According to the hospital, the Dalai Lama's personal medical team remained in close coordination with the hospital's administrative and medical staff throughout the treatment. The Dalai Lama left Dharamshala for New Delhi on June 5.
The surgery follows an earlier successful right knee replacement operation that the Dalai Lama underwent at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York in June 2024.
Following his recovery, the Dalai Lama is expected to resume his public engagements. After rest and recovery, he is scheduled to visit Ladakh, where thousands of devotees are expected to gather for teachings and religious programmes during his stay.
