Elephant Attack Kills Labourer in Krishnagiri

Krishnagiri: A tragic incident occurred near Denkanikottai in Krishnagiri district on Saturday when a labourer lost his life after being attacked by an elephant. The deceased has been identified as S Billappa, 50, a daily wage worker from Kandakanapalli village near Denkanikottai.

Details of the Incident

According to forest officials, Billappa had gone to Kollapalli to collect empty liquor bottles lying on the ground. While he was engaged in this activity, a lone elephant hiding in the thicket suddenly emerged and attacked him. Hearing Billappa's screams, locals rushed to the spot and attempted to chase the elephant away. However, the elephant trampled him and attacked him with its trunk, causing fatal injuries. Billappa died on the spot.

Response from Authorities

Upon being alerted, personnel from the Denkanikottai police station and forest department officials reached the location. They recovered the body and sent it to Denkanikottai Government Hospital for a postmortem examination. Police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the matter.
