In a tragic incident in Shahjahanpur's Kakra area, an 11-year-old girl was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs on Sunday morning. The victim, Sawaliya, was the daughter of daily wage labourer Naim.
Around 7 am, Sawaliya had accompanied her father to a field to collect vegetables. As they neared a charging station, Naim asked her to return home and send his brother, Ikram. Moments later, a group of five to six stray dogs attacked the child, inflicting multiple bite injuries on her neck and other parts of the body.
Passersby alerted Naim, and by the time he reached the spot with others, Sawaliya was lying in a pool of blood while the dogs continued to maul her. Locals chased the animals away and rushed her to Government Medical College, where she died during treatment. The family later took the body home.
Police Response
CO (City) Pankaj Pant told TOI, I visited the family following the incident. They refused a postmortem examination in writing.
The police are investigating the case, and no arrests have been made so far. The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who demand action against the rising menace of stray dogs in the area.
