A distressing incident of sexual assault has emerged from Akola district, where a six-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted by a minor relative residing nearby. The Civil Line Police officially registered a case on Saturday under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Earlier, the police faced scrutiny over an alleged delay in registering the offence. However, authorities refuted these allegations, asserting that all due procedures were correctly followed. According to police sources, the victim's mother finally recorded her statement on Saturday. In her complaint, she stated that her daughter was assaulted on April 12, 2026. She claimed to have approached the police station soon after the incident but had to return home because the child was unwell at that time.
Police officials clarified that the complainant's initial visit was duly recorded in the CCTNS system, and officers remained in contact with the family throughout the period. The survivor has now been sent for a comprehensive medical examination. Based on the medical findings and further inquiry, the accused minor will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. As per legal provisions, the minor may be sent to a remand home.
The investigation is being conducted by Sub-Inspector Tanuja Khobragade. The authorities have assured that all necessary legal steps will be taken to ensure justice for the victim.
This case highlights the critical need for swift action in crimes against children and adherence to the POCSO Act's guidelines. The police have urged the public to report any such incidents without fear, emphasizing that child safety remains a top priority.
