Gumla district has achieved the highest pass percentage of 99.32% in the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) Class X board examinations, results of which were announced on Thursday. This marks a remarkable turnaround for the tribal-dominated district, which was ranked 20th among 24 districts in 2025 and seventh in 2024.
Key Performance Highlights
A total of 13,760 students from Gumla appeared in the exams, with 13,667 passing. Two students secured 99.2% marks, becoming second toppers statewide, while 10,254 students achieved first division. The district’s overall pass percentage of 99.32% outpaced all other districts in Jharkhand.
Strategic Interventions Drive Improvement
Officials credit the success to the Gift of Education project launched in 2023, which mandated regular school monitoring by all district officials. This initiative helped Gumla secure seventh place in 2024. However, a dip to 20th rank in 2025 prompted the district administration to launch the 'Board Exam Vijay Abhiyan'.
Under this campaign, Deputy Commissioner Prerna Dixit revamped the pre-examination process, emphasizing close monitoring and personally interacting with students via video calls. The current Deputy Commissioner, Dileshwar Mahto, stated, "This success is the result of teamwork, constant monitoring, and the dedication of teachers, education staff, and all district and block-level officials. Our students have reached this milestone through sheer hard work. We are confident that Gumla will repeat this performance in the Class 12 board results as well."
Comprehensive Support System
District Education Officer Kavita Khalkho highlighted the robust strategy: "The historic success is the result of timely syllabus completion, rigorous revision, a district control room monitoring teaching quality, daily tasks for block programme officers and resource persons, remedial classes for weaker students, regular practice with model question papers, winter special homework, and pre-board exams."
District Superintendent of Education (DSE) Noor Alam Khan added that close coordination with the district administration ensured specific responsibilities were assigned to teams of district and block-level teachers and senior officials, working in tandem to achieve excellent results.
