Gurgaon: Even as temperatures soared across Haryana on Thursday, the city remained notably cooler than most other parts of the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Gurgaon recorded a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, which is nearly five degrees below the normal level for this time of year.
Pre-Monsoon Activity Expected
The IMD has predicted continued pre-monsoon activity across Haryana, including Gurgaon, over the next five days. From June 18 to June 22, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places throughout the state. However, no weather warning has been issued for June 23 and 24, when conditions are expected to remain largely dry. The forecast suggests that intermittent cloud cover and thunderstorm activity could help keep daytime temperatures in check in Gurgaon over the coming days, offering residents some relief from the intense heat experienced earlier this month.
Temperature Variations Across Haryana
Data released by the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh showed that Haryana’s average maximum temperature increased by 1.6 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day but remained near normal. Rohtak was the hottest place in the state at 41.3 degrees Celsius, followed by Ambala at 40.6 degrees Celsius and Nuh at 40.4 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Gurgaon recorded one of the lowest daytime temperatures among major cities. The city’s observatory logged a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, which is 4.8 degrees below normal. Other stations in the district recorded slightly higher readings, with the Gurgaon AWS reporting 38.1 degrees Celsius and the Gurgaon KVK AWS reporting 37.7 degrees Celsius.
Night Temperatures Rise
Night temperatures also increased across the state. Haryana’s average minimum temperature rose by 3.2 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day. In Gurgaon, the minimum temperature at the AWS station was 24.9 degrees Celsius, up by 3.9 degrees Celsius from Wednesday. The NorthCap University AWS recorded a minimum of 26.7 degrees Celsius, while the Gurgaon KVK AWS recorded 26.8 degrees Celsius. The lowest minimum temperature in Haryana was recorded at Narnaul at 23.5 degrees Celsius.
No rainfall was recorded in Gurgaon during the 24-hour period ending Thursday evening. Elsewhere in Haryana, isolated showers were reported, including 8.8 mm in Hisar and 8.5 mm in Charkhi Dadri.
