The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that heavy rainfall, lightning, and strong winds will continue to affect various parts of Karnataka until May 31. In an official bulletin, N Puviarasan, Scientist 'F' and Head of the Meteorological Centre, stated that while daytime temperatures remain high, a sudden shift in atmospheric conditions during the afternoon is triggering intense pre-monsoon activity.
According to the IMD, several districts across Karnataka are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning strikes. The weather department has advised residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid open areas to reduce the risk of lightning strikes. Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea until the weather improves.
The pre-monsoon activity has been particularly intense in coastal and interior regions, with some areas reporting waterlogging and minor damage to property. The IMD has also predicted that the monsoon is likely to arrive in Karnataka by early June, which may bring further relief from the heat but also increase the risk of flooding.
Authorities have been directed to remain on high alert and take necessary precautions to ensure public safety. The public is advised to follow weather updates and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local disaster management teams.
