Kanpur residents experienced a significant relief from the prevailing heat on Thursday as the maximum temperature plummeted to 29 degrees Celsius. This drop followed morning rainfall, dense cloud cover, and gusty winds ranging between 5.9 kmph and 31.3 kmph during the daytime. The weather turned even more pleasant in the evening when intermittent light drizzle further cooled down the city.
Weather Forecast and Expert Insights
Weather expert Dr S Sunil Pandey and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have predicted more rainfall during the night, accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 70 kmph. Early Thursday morning, the sky remained overcast while light to moderate rainfall occurred across the Kanpur division. The observatory at CSA University recorded 2.6 mm of rainfall at 4:10 am, while the city received an average rainfall of 1.5 mm.
Expected Conditions on Friday
According to the forecast issued by the IMD, weather conditions in the Kanpur division on Friday are expected to remain pleasant with mild sunshine and passing clouds. Due to high humidity levels, temperatures are likely to stay below normal. Dr Pandey stated that from the evening of May 7 through the night and morning of May 8, there is a possibility of strong winds accompanied by light drizzle or showers, dust storms, and isolated hailstorms, depending on the availability of moisture in the atmosphere.
Temperature Trend and Advisory
Dr Pandey further mentioned that temperatures in the coming days would remain normal or below normal, and there is no possibility of a heat wave. However, due to prevailing moisture in the atmosphere, rain, lightning, and high-speed winds may occur during evening and night hours. Advising caution, Dr Pandey urged citizens to avoid venturing outdoors during the night in case of strong winds and adverse weather conditions.
Residents are also advised to stay updated with local weather reports and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during potential storms.
