A young leopard cub, estimated to be between 6 to 8 months old, was rescued by forest department officials in Ratnagiri district on Friday. The incident took place at Laxmikant Wadi in Mirjole village, where the leopard had become trapped under a wooden platform beneath a net set up at a local grocery shop.
Rescue Operation Details
The forest team arrived at the scene to find a large crowd of villagers gathered around the trapped animal. Officials had to first move the onlookers to a safe distance before commencing the rescue operation. The leopard, a female, was unable to move due to the netting. After careful extraction, the cub was examined by veterinarians and provided with food and water.
Current Status
Currently, the rescued leopard is under the supervision of the forest department. Officials are actively searching for its natural habitat to facilitate a safe release. The cub is reported to be in stable condition.
Earlier this month, a similar incident occurred in the Dabholi village of Sindhudurg district, where an injured leopard entered a house before being rescued by forest department personnel. These incidents highlight the increasing instances of human-wildlife conflict in the region.
