Kanyakumari: Three people, including two women, were killed, and one person sustained serious injuries when a car rammed into a stationary tempo on the Vallamadam four-lane road near Aralvaimozhi in Kanyakumari district on Saturday.
Victims Identified
The victims were identified as Thurachi, 37, Sivagami, 50, and Kishore, 18, all residents of Sirumalanchi near Valliyur in Tirunelveli district. The injured, Suresh, who was driving the car, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Details of the Incident
Police said the group, belonging to the same family, was traveling to the Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital in Nagercoil to visit a relative admitted there. As the car approached the Vallamadam Christ Nagar stretch, it crashed at high speed into the rear of a mini truck that had been parked on the roadside.
The impact left the car mangled, trapping all four occupants inside. Passersby rushed to the spot and helped rescue the victims. Thurachi and Kishore died on the spot, while Sivagami succumbed to her injuries while being taken to hospital. Suresh was shifted to a private hospital, where he remains under intensive care.
Police Investigation
Police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Traffic on the busy stretch was disrupted briefly following the accident. Aralvaimozhi police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
The tragic accident has left the family in shock, as they were already dealing with the hospitalization of a relative. Authorities are looking into the cause of the high-speed crash, including possible driver fatigue or mechanical failure. Further investigations are underway to determine if any charges will be filed.
