The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has achieved a significant milestone by being formally designated as the Lead Knowledge Institution (LKI) for the Telangana government under the State Support Mission (SSM) of NITI Aayog. This recognition underscores the university's role in advancing policy research and governance support at the state level.
Recognition and Role
The nomination, officially communicated by the Telangana Planning Department, acknowledges the university's multidisciplinary research expertise and its capacity to contribute to evidence-based policymaking. As the LKI, UoH will assist the state government through a range of activities, including policy research, technical expertise, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, data analytics, sectoral studies, and capacity-building programmes.
Collaboration Across Sectors
The university is expected to work closely with various government departments in strategic sectors such as economics and finance, agriculture, infrastructure, health, education, technology, entrepreneurship, urban development, and human resource development. This collaboration aims to provide actionable insights and support for policy formulation and implementation.
Alignment with Vision 2047
The initiative is designed to support Telangana's long-term 'Vision 2047' goals, focusing on inclusive, sustainable, and innovation-driven growth. Vice-Chancellor In-Charge Professor J. Anuradha described the nomination as a matter of immense pride for the university community. She expressed gratitude to the Telangana government for its confidence in UoH and highlighted that this initiative would offer faculty members and researchers an opportunity to translate academic knowledge into practical public policy support.
Coordination and Implementation
Professor Anuradha further noted that the university's Research and Development (R&D) cell will coordinate the mission, with active participation from various schools, departments, and centres. This collaborative approach aims to strengthen evidence-based governance and institutional development across the state.
