The Uttar Pradesh State Archives will showcase rare manuscripts, historical government records, archival files, and old documents during its 77th Foundation Day programme on Wednesday. The exhibition, held at Shaheed Smriti Bhavan alongside a national seminar, aims to introduce students, researchers, and the public to India's manuscript traditions and archival heritage.

The programme is organized under the theme: "Importance of manuscripts in Indian knowledge tradition and their relevance for future generations." Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh emphasized the goal of connecting younger generations with historical records, stating, "We want younger generations to connect with historical records and understand their importance in preserving India’s civilisational and cultural legacy."
Historical Background of the Archives
Established in 1949 as the central records office in Allahabad, the UP State Archives was shifted to Lucknow in 1973. It preserves government records older than 30 years, along with rare books, manuscripts, and historical documents. The exhibition will feature a curated selection of these treasures, offering a glimpse into the region's administrative and cultural history.
Visitors can explore documents spanning centuries, including colonial-era files, ancient manuscripts, and records of significant historical events. The national seminar will feature discussions on the role of manuscripts in preserving knowledge and their relevance for future generations.
