The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in nine districts of Kerala for Sunday. The districts under alert include Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
Extended Alerts for Monday
On Monday, the yellow alert will be extended to Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts. The IMD has predicted rain or thundershowers at many places across Kerala until May 22.
Weather Conditions and Warnings
Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are likely to prevail in the state. Fishermen have been issued warnings until May 18, advising them to avoid venturing into the sea due to rough conditions. A yellow alert is issued when rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm is expected within 24 hours.
Rainfall in Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Meanwhile, widespread rainfall activity has been observed over the Nicobar Islands and adjoining areas of the Andaman Islands during the past two days. The strength of westerlies, which are prevailing winds blowing from west to east, has increased over the region, reaching around 35 kmph, gusting to 45 kmph.
